Weather Update: With the onset of December, a severe cold wave has intensified its grip across the country, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a cold wave alert for several regions. Cold wave conditions are currently set to persist over central and adjacent eastern India and are forecast to commence over parts of northwest India, including states like Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, by around December 12.
A cold wave continues in the hills of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand due to dry weather and frost, causing discomfort to locals, Jagran.com reported. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in Kerala and Tamil Nadu today.
Cold Wave Alert For Delhi, UP, Maharashtra And Other States
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Odisha.
According to the latest forecast, cold wave conditions are expected to intensify after December 13. Dense fog is likely in the early morning hours across isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Manipur.
The weather department has warned of light rain and snowfall in the states due to an approaching Western Disturbance, which will likely trigger a significant drop in temperatures, the report added.
Snowfall In Himachal Pradesh And Uttarakhand
The cold weather in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand is currently being worsened by dry conditions. The combination of dry cold and frost is causing significant discomfort to the residents in the region. However, relief is on the way as the weather department has forecast the possibility of rain or snowfall in these states starting after December 13.
Delhi Weather Update
The severe cold wave gripping the hilly states is now expected to affect Delhi-NCR. Chilly winds blowing into the region are likely to sharpen the chill across various parts of the national capital. The IMD has forecast that the national capital will experience light fog and mist, with the minimum temperature expected to hover around 6 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
Yellow Alert For Rain In Tamil Nadu And Kerala
In sharp contrast to the northern regions, the southern part is bracing for heavy rain. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Kerala and Tamil Nadu, predicting heavy rainfall in these areas today. Residents are advised to remain cautious, and fishermen are urged to avoid venturing near the coast.
