Weather Update: Heatwave Kills 16 In Telangana, IMD Alert In Place For Himachal; Will Heat Intensify In Delhi?

Weather Update: Several states across the country are reeling under a severe heatwave. On Saturday, the scorching heat and gusty winds pushed temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius in several areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that temperatures are likely to rise further in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from Sunday.

Rohtak in Haryana recorded a maximum temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius. Bathinda in Punjab reached 43.8 degrees Celsius. Amritsar recorded a maximum temperature of 40.5 degrees Celsius, while Ludhiana recorded a maximum temperature of 41.2 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 40.6 degrees Celsius.

Punjab And Haryana Weather

Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh has directed government hospitals to start dedicated units for heat stroke management, with active cooling measures including ice packs and necessary medical supplies.

In Haryana, Ambala recorded a maximum temperature of 41.2 degrees Celsius, while Hisar recorded a maximum temperature of 42.4 degrees Celsius.

Jharkhand Weather

The IMD has issued a heatwave alert for three Jharkhand districts - Garhwa, Palamu and Chatra - for Monday, while several other districts are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning and moderate rainfall over the next six days.

An orange alert has been issued for Dhanbad on Sunday, with rain expected.

Telangana Weather

Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said 16 people have died in seven districts of the state due to the heatwave.

Rajasthan Weather

In Rajasthan, Chittorgarh was the hottest place in the state, reaching 44.2 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours.

Temperature Crosses 45 Degrees In Delhi

IMD has warned that temperatures are expected to rise further in Delhi-NCR from Sunday. Temperatures have already exceeded 45 degrees Celsius in many areas of Delhi. Hospitals in the National Capital Region (NCR) are seeing a rise in the number of patients suffering from heat-related illnesses.

Himachal Weather

In Himachal Pradesh, the Shimla Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert, forecasting a heatwave in parts of the state on May 26 and 27. Districts such as Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Solan, and Sirmaur may be affected. Additionally, a western disturbance is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to many parts of the state over the next few days.
