The monsoon is set to cover the entire country, with its expected arrival in Delhi today. On Sunday, the monsoon reached Punjab and Himachal, over 10 days ahead of its scheduled time. Besides Delhi, the monsoon rains are also likely to drench many parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. If the monsoon reaches Delhi today, it will be its earliest onset since 2013.

The monsoon arrived on June 16 in the year 2013. It arrived on June 28 in 2024, on June 30 in 2022 and on July 13 in 2021.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rains in northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Konkan and Goa till June 26.

Extremely heavy rains are also expected in Madhya Pradesh for two days. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Northeast India for the next three days, after which a period of light rain will begin. On Sunday, heavy rains occurred in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Rupnagar and Pathankot in Punjab. Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur and Patiala also received rain.

After the onset of monsoon in Uttarakhand, the sequence of rains has increased from the mountains to the plains. Dehradun has been witnessing heavy rains, with downpour recorded in Haridwar, Roorkee, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital as well.

The road at Gaurikund on the Kedarnath route has been blocked for the second consecutive day and movement was affected for several hours. The Munsiyari-Dhapa-Milam road connecting the China border has been closed.

On the other hand, the wooden footbridge built on the Pindar River in Bageshwar has been washed away due to rain. With the onset of monsoon in Jammu and Kashmir, people have got relief from the scorching heat. The water level of rivers and streams has also started rising, while, contrary to the prediction of rain in Kashmir valley, most areas, including Srinagar, remained sunny throughout the day.
