Heavy rains have disrupted the lives and livelihoods in several states as the monsoon has covered the entire country, over nine days ahead of its scheduled time. Flood-like conditions are prevalent in several parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rain in Uttarakhand and Haryana. Heavy downpour has also been forecasted for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Vidarbha, Telangana, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mahapatra said this type of rain pattern usually occurs when the monsoon trough shifts southward from its normal position and when several low-pressure systems form. Usually, five low-pressure systems form in July and move in the west-northwest direction.
Rainfall may intensify in most parts of eastern Rajasthan from July 1. In the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain was recorded at some places in the state, along with cloudy weather.
Moderate to heavy rain was reported in several parts of Uttar Pradesh throughout the day on Monday. People faced difficulties due to waterlogging in many districts, including Kanpur, Farrukhabad, Bulandshahr and Agra.
Landslides, Floods In Himachal
Incessant rains have wreaked havoc in hilly regions. As many as 20 people have so far been killed in monsoon-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh. Over 259 roads were closed due to landslides in Shimla, Solan and Mandi, along with other districts. Kalka-Shimla rail line also shut operations due to landslides and felling of trees.
Excavation has been banned in the urban area of Shimla during the entire rainy season.
Schools and colleges have been closed in several parts of the state amid the IMD forecast for more showers in Himachal.
Heavy Rain Alert In Uttarakhand And Punjab
The Meteorological department has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Tehri, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Nainital and Bageshwar on Tuesday. An orange alert has been issued for heavy rain in many districts of Punjab on July 1.
The Char Dham Yatra was partially halted due to heavy rain in Uttarakhand. The religious journey later resumed on Monday.
