Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday stated that the southwest monsoon is expected to withdraw from more parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, and Punjab within the next 24 hours. This year, the monsoon withdrawal began three days earlier than usual on September 14.
The monsoon withdrawal line currently passes through Bhatinda, Fatehabad, Pilani, Ajmer, Deesa, and Bhuj. The IMD also said that the weather conditions are becoming favourable for the monsoon to withdraw from some parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttar Pradesh.
Heavy Rainfall Across Rajasthan And Gujarat Accompanies Monsoon Withdrawal
- As the monsoon begins to withdraw from more parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan, parts of east Rajasthan and Gujarat witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall on Sunday
- According to rainfall data, Nandod recorded 120mm of rainfall, Rajpipala and Bodeli (100mm each), Bhopalsagar (90mm), and Bari Sadri (70mm).
- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) further stated that Gujarat will continue to receive heavy rainfall till September 23.
- Apart from Gujarat and Rajasthan, Konkan, Marathwada, and Goa are also expected to experience heavy rainfall, lasting until September 27.
Heavy Rainfall In THESE States As Bay Of Bengal Turns Active
The Bay of Bengal is becoming active and is likely to generate two low-pressure areas this week. On Saturday, a cyclonic circulation formed over the North Andaman Sea and the adjoining Myanmar region.“Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours,” the IMD said.
In view of the developing low-pressure system, the weather department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall along the east coast, especially in Odisha.

Another low-pressure system is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal on September 25. This system is likely to strengthen into a depression and move along the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast, bringing intense rainfall to coastal states this week.
“This system is likely to cross south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh on September 27,” the weather department said.
