Kolkata Weather Update: Kolkata is set to experience light to moderate rain from Monday, September 22 onwards, which may dampen the festive spirit ahead of Durga Puja. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday stated that the city will witness generally cloudy skies with rain and thunderstorms in the coming days.

“There is a cyclonic circulation in the North Andaman Sea and the adjacent Myanmar coast. This cyclone will move north and north-westwards and reach the North Bay of Bengal by Monday. At the same time, a low-pressure system is likely to form in the Northeast Bay of Bengal off the Myanmar and Bangladesh coast by September 25,” news agency IANS quoted a senior Meteorological Department official as saying.

According to the forecast by the weather department, rainfall is likely to begin with the onset of Durga Puja, with heavy rainfall possible in coastal areas from September 25. If the same conditions prevail, rain activity is likely to intensify between September 30 and October 2.

Kolkata Weather Forecast

- Starting Monday, the residents of Kolkata will witness light to moderate rainfall, which may dampen their festive spirit.

- The city is expected to see intermittent showers accompanied by gusty winds of 30 to 40 km/h over the next few days.

- Speaking to IANS, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the authorities have already asked Durga puja organisers to take precautions and make all necessary preparations in view of the inclement weather.

North Bengal Weather Forecast

- The IMD on Sunday said that all districts of North Bengal will witness rain, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning from September 21.

- Starting September 21, gusty winds of 30 to 40 km/h accompanied by rain and thunderstorms are likely in several North Bengal districts, including Darjeeling and Malda.

- Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and prepare for the potential impact of the rains during Durga Puja.

South Bengal Weather Forecast

- According to IMD, all districts of South Bengal will witness light to moderate rain with thundershowers on Sunday and in the coming days.

- The weather department has issued an alert for South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, and West Midnapore, warning of heavy rainfall.

- The rainfall activity is likely to increase on Tuesday in East Midnapore, West Midnapore and in parts of Bankura district.
