PM Modi Address Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation today. It came a day before the rollout of the next GST system, under which two slabs of 12 percent and 28 percent have been done away with. The rate rationalisation will bring down the prices of some of the most crucial goods and services used by the common people in day-to-day life.
During his Independence Day speech, the Prime Minister had promised a 'Double-Diwali gift' with the reforms in the said indirect tax with is going to take effect on the first day of Navratri, an auspicious nine-day festival dedicated to Shakti.
The speech also comes at a time when the government's foreign policy is facing one of the toughest challenges, given the tumultuous global conditions, marked by the decisions of the United States President Donald Trump.
In its latest decision, the Trump administration has imposed a jaw-dropping $100,000 fee on the H1-B visa applications, a move that would affect the Indian professionals looking to work in the United States. This H1-B visa blow comes on the heels of a steep 50% tariff on Indian imports, which the administration claims is meant to penalize India for financing the Ukraine war by purchasing Russian crude oil.
