Weather Update: The northern states have witnessed a sudden drop in temperature in the last two days due to fresh snowfall in the hilly regions and rainfall in the plain states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that the higher regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh are set to witness snowfall for the next few days. Along with dropping the temperature, the snowfall has also disrupted the flight services, and the vehicles remained stuck in long queues in these regions. The weather department stated that the northern states will continue to witness light to moderate rain for the next two to three days. It further advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings.

The weather department stated that several cities, including Shimla and Manali, received the first snowfall of the season. It further stated that Shimla recorded more snowfall in the past few days than in any year since 2022, adding that the snowfall has led to inconveniences for the commuters. Several districts of Himachal Pradesh witnessed strong winds at 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. The IMD has stated that the hilly regions are set to witness a cold wave for the next few days. Poor visibility and snow accumulation on the runway have disrupted flight operations at Srinagar International Airport.
