Heavy rainfall across several states of the country has increased the woes of people. Normal life in Gujarat and Rajasthan has come to a standstill due to a massive downfall. A similar situation is prevalent in Uttarakhand and Himachal as well. As many as 26 people were killed and over 117,000 were left homeless due to floods in Tripura.
The rising water levels in rivers have worsened the situation in Gujarat's Navsari and Valsad districts. In the Morbi district, the search is underway for seven people, who were swept away along with a tractor-trolley while crossing a bridge submerged in water.
The 23 gates of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam have been opened. In the past 24 hours, three deaths have been reported in Gujarat in rain-related incidents. Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several villages across South Gujarat and Saurashtra, affecting cities like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, and Rajkot.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel of all possible assistance from the central government. According to data from the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), Khergam in Navsari district recorded the highest rainfall of 356 millimetres in the last 24 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for light to moderate rainfall in various parts of eastern and northeastern India, including Odisha, Bihar, Bengal, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.
In Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, a cloudburst occurred on Monday in the areas of Kumate, Dharaman, and Halla Panchayat. A woman and her two children got swept away by the strong water currents. They are still missing. Besides, three vehicles washed away due to the sudden rise in the water level of a stream. Additionally, two government buildings and several homes were severely damaged.
