The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heatwave alert in multiple states as the temperature is on the rise across the country. The IMD stated that a severe heatwave is set to sweep across various regions of India, with temperatures expected to reach a scorching 44-47 degrees Celsius. The met department warned of high maximum temperatures affecting Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha and east Jharkhand.

IMD forecasted that these regions will witness severe heatwave conditions until May 3, which are expected to diminish in intensity over the subsequent three to four days. In southern Andhra Pradesh, isolated pockets are forecasted to endure severe heat waves for the next two days, followed by heatwave conditions for an additional two to three days. 

Heatwave Alert

The meteorological department predicted that Telangana, Interior Karnataka and Coastal Andhra Pradesh are bracing for heat wave conditions in isolated areas for the next four to five days. Kerala is set to experience these conditions on May 2, with Tamil Nadu following on May 2 and 3. The heat wave is also expected to affect isolated pockets over Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat State from May 2 to 6 and Marathwada from May 3 to 6. 

Coastal regions like Coast Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe are likely to face hot and humid weather over the next five days. Additionally, warm nights are anticipated over Chhattisgarh on May 2 and 3, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada from May 3 to 6.

Rain Forecast 

Light to moderate rain is likely in several parts of the northeast, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Additionally, isolated parts of Sikkim, Odisha and Sub Himalayan West Bengal are also expected to witness some rain, IMD forecasted. 

Delhi Weather Update 

Despite the intense heat, Delhi experienced a reprieve with strong winds keeping temperatures at bay, while snowfall in the mountains contributed to a notable decrease in the city’s maximum temperature on Wednesday. IMD predicts clear skies and gusty winds, with temperatures ranging between 21 and 37 degrees Celsius on Thursday. 

Bihar Weather Update 

The heatwave conditions continue to grip various districts, with the IMD cautioning that the sweltering conditions will persist, including in the state’s capital, Patna. Kishanganj and Gaya are also expected to experience intense heat.

UP Weather Update 

Uttar Pradesh is not spared from the scorching temperatures, which rise rapidly from morning to noon, making outdoor activities challenging. However, the weather department anticipates a shift starting May 4, with potential rainfall and cloudy conditions extending to May 5 and 6, offering some respite from the heat.
