Weather Updates: As winter tightens its grip across northern and north-west India, temperatures have dropped sharply across regions, with Rajasthan recording nearly 0 degrees Celsius for the first time on New Year’s Day. Snowfall in the mountains has further intensified the cold, leading to severe chill and frost conditions in the plains.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued cold wave and dense fog alerts for several states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Bihar, Odisha, Sikkim, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Weather Update: Snowfall Alert In J&K

Large parts of Jammu and Kashmir are already covered in a thick blanket of snow, and the fresh spell is expected to push temperatures down further in the plains and other major North Indian states in the coming weeks.

Snowfall Alert In Uttarakhand

The Weather Department has issued a snowfall alert in Kedarnath, Hemkund Sahib and Badrinath in Uttarakhand. These places received fresh snowfalls recently, with minimum temperatures plunging to -11 degrees Celsius.

Weather Update Today: Fog Alert In Rajasthan And Madhya Pradesh

Rajasthan recorded zero degrees Celsius on New Year’s Day for the first time, prompting the weather department to issue a fog alert in 10 districts, including Barmer, Bikaner, Sikar and Hanumangarh.

Foggy conditions are also likely to persist in Madhya Pradesh for the next three days, with light showers possible in Bhopal and Indore.

Cold Wave In Delhi

The weather department has predicted a severe cold wave in the national capital, with the minimum temperature plunging to around 8 degrees Celsius on Saturday. The IMD has also predicted dense fog till January 6. During this period, winds are expected to blow at speeds of up to 10 kilometres per hour.

Cold Wave In UP And Bihar

IMD has issued a cold wave and fog warning for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar until January 9 as temperatures are expected to plummet further. Additionally, dense fog and overcast conditions are expected to cut off daylight sunshine significantly.
