The temperature in northern states is expected to drop sharply following snowfall in the higher reaches of the Himalayan mountains. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that from the second week of December, temperatures in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan will decline further, leading to a marked increase in cold conditions across the plains.
Snowfall Hits Kashmir And Himachal Pradesh
Snowfall has been reported in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, with regions like Chamba, Kangra, Kinnaur and Kullu expecting more precipitation. According to the IMD, a fresh western disturbance will likely bring light rain and snowfall to high-altitude areas, including Lahaul-Spiti, starting Friday.

Dense Fog Expected In Delhi-NCR
The cold weather could also lead to dense fog in Delhi, though no official alert has been issued for the National Capital Region (NCR). From November 30 to December 2, light to moderate smog and fog are expected during morning, evening and night hours, potentially reducing visibility across the region.

Chief Minister MK Stalin convened a high-level meeting to assess preparedness, deploying the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and state teams to vulnerable districts like Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, and Cuddalore.
