Bengal Polls: With just three days remaining in the declaration of the West Bengal Assembly election results, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) has faced a series of setbacks. The Calcutta High Court on Friday dismissed two petitions filed by the incumbent party related to counting arrangements. The court pointed out that it found "no merit" in the petitions, adding that the prejudice was not backed by any evidence. Earlier on Thursday night, Mamata Banerjee staged a protest in Bhabanipur, alleging "manipulations".

Mamata's Protest At Strongroom

Earlier in the late hours of Thursday, the chief minister reached an EVM strongroom in Bhabanipur, the constituency where she is contesting against BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. Banerjee stated that her party workers complained of bias and manipulations at the site. "If there is any plan to tamper with the counting process, it will not be tolerated," she told the reporters.

However, the BJP leaders alleged that the TMC leaders were trying to create chaos at the "sensitive" site, adding that the saffron party will not allow anyone to take unfair advantage.

Setback From Calcutta HC

The Calcutta High Court rejected two separate petitions filed by the ruling party due to lack of merit and evidence. While one of the petitions questioned the inclusion of central government employees as counting supervisors, the other raised questions on the shifting of a counting centre.

Exit Poll Shocker

Several pollsters have predicted that TMC might not be able to repeat the government despite a strong campaign. While most of the exit polls have predicted a tough fight, the incumbent party is facing probably its toughest challenge. While rejecting these numbers, Banerjee asserted that such trends are being displayed to demoralise the cadre of TMC. The results of the West Bengal assembly election will be announced on May 4.
