Bengaluru News:  A techie from Bengaluru came up with a humorous solution to the city's infamous traffic bottlenecks, and it went viral, generating both serious business ideas and laughter. A user, Adarsh, posted a picture to X (previously Twitter) with the caption, "Idea for a Bangalore traffic meeting." The picture displayed a small truck filled with office chairs, one of which was occupied, giving the impression of a temporary mobile conference space.

Online users responded to the image in a humorous and entrepreneurial way. One user joked, “If this happens, nobody will be late for the meeting,” while another remarked, “I’m loving the idea—it would be productive and entertaining, but people might get distracted.”

Others recognised the opportunity to make money. “We could make a profitable business from this, but need to think about it,” one comment read. The post also inspired some to draw sarcastic references to Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, who recently advocated for a 70-hour workweek. “What if Narayana Murthy sees this?” one user quipped, while another joked, “The day isn’t far when Murthy will put a GPS chip tracking employees if they go to a place of enjoyment.”

The humour also draws attention to Bengaluru's infamous traffic. The 2024 TomTom Traffic Index places Bengaluru as the third slowest city in the world, after Kolkata, Barranquilla, and Colombia. A Dutch location technology company called TomTom assesses traffic in major cities once a year. The congestion issues in Bengaluru were highlighted in this year's report.

Traffic congestion in Bengaluru is caused by several important factors:

High Number of Private Vehicles:  Overcrowding is caused by a notable rise in the number of private vehicles and two-wheelers on the road.

Daily Vehicle Registrations:  The daily influx of new vehicles makes the traffic problems already present worse.

Road Infrastructure Issues:  The traffic load is increased by inadequate or badly maintained roads as well as a lack of public transportation options.

Seasonal Changes:  Certain weather patterns, such as intense monsoon rains, might impede traffic movement and make congestion worse.

Differences Among Travel Modes:  The effects of various forms of transportation (such as bicycles, automobiles, and public transportation) on traffic patterns and levels of congestion differ.
