As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) failed to get a majority on its own, the opposition INDIA alliance has started to discuss further political strategies in the future. The first focus of the opposition is on pushing for a non-BJP face to be made the speaker in the non-Lok Sabha. According to jagran.com, if a candidate from NDA allies like Telugu Desam or Janata Dal United comes forward for the post of Speaker of the new Lok Sabha, then the option of forming a consensus is open. But if the BJP stakes its claim for the post of Speaker with its party's face, then there are full chances of an electoral contest, and INDIA alliance will also field its candidate.

According to jagran.com, quoting sources, it was confirmed that at the INDIA alliance meeting on June 5, a few important issues were discussed, including the election of a new speaker. Although the common strategy of the alliance is yet to be decided, it is certain that the opposition will try to use every political trick to prevent this post from going into the hands of the BJP.

A senior strategist of the Congress, who is leading the opposition, said in an informal conversation that in the last Lok Sabha, with the help of the speaker, all efforts were made to silence the voice of the opposition in Parliament, and in the end, a dark history of suspending more than 150 MPs was written. So, the role of a speaker has become very important. He also said that, especially when the BJP has 240 seats, its efforts to increase it by breaking into smaller parties cannot be denied, and that is why the opposition will try to get a new speaker from a party other than the BJP.

It was also said that if the NDA nominates any JDU or TDP MP for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker, then the opposition will take a positive approach towards building consensus. It also added that the INDIA alliance will definitely get the post of Deputy Speaker in the new Lok Sabha.

According to parliamentary tradition, this post has been given to the largest party in the opposition, but in the 17th Lok Sabha, the government did not conduct the election of a Deputy Speaker. In 2014, the BJP  made its own ally, AIADMK's M Thambidurai the Deputy Speaker. The opposition believes that, compared to the last two Lok Sabhas, INDIA alliance is not far behind the NDA in terms of number, and in such a  situation, the post of Deputy Speaker will have to be given to the opposition.
