Ajit Pawar Plane Crash: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was among five killed in the chartered plane crash in Maharashtra’s Baramati on Wednesday morning. Initial reports suggest that hilly terrain, poor weather conditions including dense fog and wind patterns played a major role in the plane losing course and crashing.
The aircraft identified as a Learjet 45 operated by VSR Ventures Private Limited, is believed to have faced dense fog in Pune district before colliding with a rocky outcrop. VSR is a major operator in India’s non-scheduled aviation sector. Registered as VT-SSK, the Learjet 45XR is classified as a super-light business jet and is recognised for its high speed and fuel efficiency. Built for short-to medium-range operations, the aircraft has a wingspan measuring 47 feet and a maximum weight of 9,752 kg.
As per DGCA officials, the spread wreckage will be examined by experts. Photographs will also be taken to understand the plane’s speed, direction and the impact it suffered at the time of crash. More information about the crash will be clear once the black box is analysed. Those who died included Pawar, along with two more personnel (1 PSO and 1 attendant) and 2 crew (PIC+FO) members.
