Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is experiencing a massive outage on Saturday evening, disrupting services for several users across various countries. The primary complaint flagged was messages not being delivered through the app, while others also reported issues uploading status updates and logging in on the popular messaging app.

According to real-time outage tracking site Downdetector, over 3000 issue reports were received around 9 pm. Of these, 87 per cent of problems were related to messaging, 10 per cent were related to overall app experience and three per cent were about voice. Users also reported being unable to upload statuses or use WhatsApp Web, with some stating they could not log into their accounts.

Several users took to X to confirm the outage and share their concerns. One user said their status uploads were stuck, while others tagged WhatsApp, asking if the app was down.

WhatsApp has not issued an official statement on the outage so far. The incident follows a larger global outage in February when WhatsApp services were disrupted for thousands worldwide, impacting messaging, calls, and connectivity across both the mobile and web versions of the app. At that time, Downdetector had recorded over 9,000 complaints.

Earlier on Saturday, UPI-based digital payment services also faced a temporary disruption nationwide. Millions of users were unable to make transactions, affecting bill payments and daily business activities. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which manages UPI operations, attributed the issue to intermittent technical problems and assured users that efforts were underway to restore normalcy.
