Amid an ongoing debate over the alleged imposition of Hindi over the Southern states, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday again slammed the central government. He stated that ahead of imposing Hindi over Tamil Nadu, the central government should tell which third language is being taught in the schools of the Northern states.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Stalin stated that even two languages were not taught properly in the Northern states. He further asked the critics to reveal the third language that was taught in these states.

"Some guardians of lopsided policies, wailing in great concern, ask, 'Why are you denying Tamil Nadu students the opportunity to learn a third language?' Well, why don't they first say which third language is being taught up north? If they had just taught two languages properly there, where do we need to learn a third?" Stalin said on X.

The remarks from the Tamil Nadu chief minister came after the central government stated that he was spreading misinformation regarding the new education policy. The Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, stated the policy was introduced to give importance to all the languages of India. He further stated that the policy does not direct the states to make Hindi learning compulsory.

"National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 should give importance to Indian languages. All Indian languages have equal rights, and all should be taught in the same way. This is the objective of the NEP. Some people in Tamil Nadu are opposing it for political purposes. We have not said anywhere in the NEP that only Hindi will be taught," Pradhan stated.

While Udayanidhi Stalin on Friday stated that the central government was trying to push Hindi “sideways” through the NEP, adding that the state will never accept such a policy under any circumstances.
