Prominent businessman Boby Chemmanur was arrested on Wednesday by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the sexual harassment case filed by Malayalam actress Honey Rose, news agency PTI reported citing official sources.
A Kochi City Police officer confirmed that the arrest took place in Wayanad. The SIT, headed by the Circle Inspector of Kochi Central Station, was set up to investigate the actress's allegations against Chemmanur, a jeweller. Following Rose's complaint, Chemmanur has been charged under non-bailable sections.
Who Is Boby Chemmanur?
Boby Chemmanur is a prominent businessman and philanthropist from Kerala, best known as the director of Chemmanur International Jewellers. He has been an influential figure in the region, not only for his entrepreneurial success but also for his active involvement in public life.
Chemmanur made headlines in 2012 when he brought legendary Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona to Kannur, securing him as the brand ambassador for Chemmanur Jewellers. His dedication to social causes was also evident in 2014 when he undertook a statewide marathon across Kerala to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, highlighting his commitment to community welfare. He has over 1 million followers on Instagram.
On the other hand, Honey Rose, who made headlines after she levelled sexual harassment allegations against Boby Chemmanur, is a well-known Malayalam actress who made her acting debut in 2005 and gained widespread recognition for her role in the 2012 movie Trivandrum Lodge. In addition to her work in Malayalam cinema, she has appeared in several films across Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu industries.
Chemmanur Denies Charges
Chemmanur denied the sexual harassment accusations, stating there was no conflict between him and the actor. He insisted he never used any offensive language, as she claimed, and emphasized that he always treated her in a friendly manner.
The jeweller further asserted that he conducts himself respectfully with women and had consulted his lawyers, who assured him that his words were not objectionable.
