The President of India nominated 4 members to Rajya Sabha, as per the notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Saturday night. Former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, senior lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, historian Dr Meenakshi Jain, and Kerala BJP leader C Sadanandan Master, have been nominated to the Rajya Sabha.

C Sadanandan, veteran BJP leader and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist from Kerala’s Kannur district. Sadanandan is a former school teacher, who known as ‘living martyr’.

Who Is C Sadanandan Master: ‘Living Martyr’

Senior leader of saffron party is known for his personal sacrifice for the party and its mission. C Sadanandan comes from politically violent Kerala district, Kannur and is survivor of political violence in the district in 1994. He contested for elections from the Koothuparamba constituency in 2016 and 2021, but could not secure victory.

The Bhartiya Janata Party refers to him as ‘living martyr’ because his both the legs were chopped off in 1994 political violence in Kannur. He was allegedly attacked by CPI(M) workers during a time of intense clashes between the RSS and the Left in the region. The incident led to the amptution and remained without legs. During that time, Master was serving as the RSS Boudhik Pramukh for Kannur.

A primary school teacher, Master was Born in a communist family and was active as a member of the CPM during his college days.After completing B Ed at a college in Guwahati he joined Kuzhikkal LP School in Kannur.

Over the years, Sadanandan has have held several key positions across streams. He served on the post of president of the National Teachers’ Union. He also served as Deputy Vice President of BJP in Kerala. Master, also, has contributed to an RSS affiliated think tank, the Bharatiya Vichara Kendram as a member, and worked in editorial board of BJP’s Kerala mouthpiece, Janmabhoomi.
