Punjab-based YouTuber Jasbir Singh, who operates a channel named “Jaan Mahal” and has over 1.1 million subscribers was arrested for his alleged links to a terror-backed Pakistani espionage network. He was also allegedly in touch with YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who faces similar charges and is now in police custody, and Danish, a now-expelled Pakistani High Commission official. A court in Mohali sent the YouTuber to three-day Police custody on Wednesday.

Who Is Jasbir Singh

A resident of village Mahlan in Rupnagar, a city in Punjab, Jasbir Singh runs a YouTube channel named Jaan Mahal. As per police, the channel is associated with people part of a terror-backed espionage network.

As per his YouTube channel’s bio, Jasbir aims to give meaningful information to the viewers about Punjab and its culture. He began the channel in 2008 and has around 2,985 videos with 1.1 million subscribers. He has posted videos of his visits to the Maldives, Singapore, Malaysia and Jammu and Kashmir.

Divulging the details about the network and Singh’s arrest, the Punjab DGP said the accused was associated with PIO Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa, who is part of a terror-backed espionage network.

“Acting swiftly on actionable intelligence, State Special Operations Cell (#SSOC), Mohali has unearthed a critical espionage network linked to Jasbir Singh, a resident of Village Mahlan, #Rupnagar. Jasbir Singh, who operates a #YouTube channel called “Jaan Mahal,” has been found associated with PIO Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa, part of a terror-backed espionage network. He also maintained close contact with #Haryana-based #YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra (arrested for spying) and Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a #Pakistani national and expelled Pak High Commission official,” Punjab DGP posted on X.

As per the probe, Jasbir Singh attended a Pakistan consulate event in Delhi and also visited the neighbouring country three times. He tried to delete all traces of his interaction with all these PIOs after Jyoti Malhotra’s arrest to evade arrest.

“Investigations have revealed that Jasbir attended the #Pakistan National Day event in #Delhi on Danish’s invitation, where he met Pakistani #Army officials and vloggers. He travelled to Pakistan on three occasions (2020, 2021, 2024), and his electronic devices contained multiple Pakistan-based numbers, now under detailed forensic scrutiny. After Jyoti Malhotra’s arrest, Jasbir attempted to erase all traces of his communications with these PIOs to avoid detection. An FIR has been registered at SSOC, #Mohali,” the DGP added.

This came a day after the Punjab Police arrested a Tarn Taran resident for allegedly disclosing sensitive information about the movements of the Indian Armed Forces with Pakistan's ISI during Operation Sindoor.
