Chennai Weather: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for moderate rain and thunder in multiple Tamil Nadu districts. Chennai, Ranipet, Villupuram, Puducherry, Tiruvallur, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Theni, Thoothukudi, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Namakkal, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Dindigul, and Kanniyakumari, Madurai and Virudhunagar districts of Tamil Nadu are on alert. Skies are likely to be cloudy and it will remain the same throughout the day in Chennai.
The alert comes in the wake of a cyclonic circulation forming over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the South Andaman Sea.The current weather pattern is attributed to a cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining South Andaman Sea. This system is bringing unstable conditions to southern India, especially Tamil Nadu.

Residents in these areas should be prepared for sudden spells of rain, thunder and lightning, and gusty winds, which may cause localized waterlogging, traffic delays, and power disruptions.
In another update, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) has announced electricity supply cuts in several areas on Wednesday, June 4, for 5 hours in view of routine maintenance work. The supply will be affected from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. However, power will be restored before 2:00 pm if the maintenance is completed ahead of schedule.
