The National Commission of Women (NCW) on Monday took note of the derogatory comment made by Ahmad K from Delhi on a Kirti Chakra Captain Anshuman Singh's widow, Smriti Singh. NCW also asked Delhi Police to take "immediate action" against the person.
The act has violated Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma sent a letter to the Delhi Commissioner of Police to arrest the accused and send a detailed report within 3 days.
Who Is Smriti Singh?
Smriti Singh is the widow of Captain Anshuman Singh of the Indian Army, who was recently awarded the prestigious Kirti Chakra posthumously for the ultimate sacrifice in saving the lives of his fellow army men during a fire incident in Siachen.
Smriti received the Kirti Chakra on behalf of her late husband, Anshuman Singh, and called their enduring love story, a journey that began with a chance encounter in college and endured through the challenges of a long-distance relationship.
Captain Anshuman Singh, a brave Indian Army officer, was tragically killed in July 2023 while attempting to rescue a fellow soldier trapped in a heavy fire at an ammo dump in Siachen.
A video of Smriti, where she recalled her first meeting with Anshuman, has been going viral online. "We met on the first day of our college. I would not be dramatic, but it was love at first sight. After a month, he got selected into the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC). We met in an engineering college, and he got selected into a medical college, super intelligent guy. After just one month of meeting, it was a long-distance relationship for eight long years and then we thought we should get married now so we did," she can be heard saying in the video.
