Amarnath Ghosh, a professional Bharatanatyam and Kuchupudi dancer from Kolkata, was shot dead in Missouri, United States, his friend and TV actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee informed in a post on X on Friday.
Bhattacharjee said that she sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s help on Tuesday. “My friend Amarnath Ghosh was shot and killed in St Louis academy neighbourhood, US on Tuesday evening. The only child in the family, the mother died 3 years back. Father passed away during his childhood. Well, the reason, the accused details everything are not revealed yet or perhaps no one left in his family to fight for it except his few friends," she wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“Some friends in the US are trying to claim the body but still no update about it. Indian Embassy in the US kindly see to it if you can. At least we should know the reason for his murder,” she further added.
Meanwhile, the Consulate General of India in Chicago expressed its heartfelt condolences to Ghosh's family and friends, saying that it is "following up forensic investigations with police & providing support."

The Consulate General later said that it is “extending all help to relatives of deceased Amarnath Ghosh.” “Taken up the case strongly with St Louis police and the University for investigation of the reprehensible gun attack.”
The United States has been witnessing a series of attacks against Indian nationals and people of Indian origin. As many as five Indian students were reported dead in separate incidents in the first two months of 2024.
Who Was Amarnath Ghosh?
- Amarnath Ghosh was a professional Bharatanatyam and Kuchupudi dancer and was a resident of Kolkata.
- He was reportedly pursuing an MFA in Dance at Washington University in St Louis. He performed four different dance styles including Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, and Kathak.
- Ghosh’s friend and renowned TV actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee in her post mentioned that Ghosh was the only child in the family. His mother passed away three years back, and he lost his father in his childhood.
