Sonam Raghuvanshi, who had been missing for the last 17 days after her husband’s murder during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, surrendered before the police in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur on Monday. Meghalaya DGP Nongrang said three others have also been arrested in the case, who are believed to be hitmen hired by Sonam to kill her husband, Raja.
Reacting over the development, Sonam’s father Devi Singh said his daughter was innocent and the police were framing her in a false case. He said the couple’s marriage took place after the consent of both families, adding that Meghalaya Police had been lying about the case since the beginning. “My daughter is innocent. I trust her. She cannot kill her husband,” he said.
Singh said his daughter reached Ghazipur by herself and called her brother from a Dhaba. The police went there and took her from there.
Sonam’s father also said they were planning to meet Home Minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh CM to demand a CBI probe in the case.
Divulging the details of the case, UP ADG Law and Order, Amitabh Yash, said Sonam Raghuvanshi called her family members at around 3 AM and informed them that she was present at the Kashi Dhaba on Varanasi-Ghazipur main road. Ghazipur Police took her to the hospital and then to the One Stop Centre in Ghazipur.
He said Meghalaya Police was present in Indore to investigate this case. ADG Yash also said Sonam will be handed over to Meghalaya Police once the team reaches Ghazipur.
Raja Raghuvanshi (29) was found dead on May 27 in a deep gorge. His body was located with the help of a drone. Cops also recovered his mobile phone and a machete, believed to have been used in the crime.
