Tamil Nadu: The Congress on Saturday warned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay against inducting the rebel faction of the AIADMK in his cabinet, urging him to respect the public mandate.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Congress leader Karti Chidambaram stated that the people voted for a government that does not include both the AIADMK and the DMK. He warned that including rebel AIADMK MLAs would damage the Chief Minister's credibility.

'No Need To Include Rebel Faction Of AIADMK': Karti Chidambaram

The Congress leader stated that Chief Minister Vijay does not require the support of the rebel faction of the AIADMK. He emphasised that public mandate is for a government that does not include both the AIADMK and the DMK.

Urging Vijay to remain faithful to that mandate, Chidambaram noted that the rebel faction had voluntarily supported him during the trust vote, and there is no reason to include them in the government. He urged the Chief Minister not to include him in the government.

This comes days after a floor test in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, where 25 AIADMK MLAs voted in favour of Vijay's government following internal strife within their party.

Political Turmoil Within AIADMK

The political turmoil within the AIADMK intensified after Shanmugam publicly criticised EPS, accusing him of weakening the organisation and leading the party to consecutive electoral defeats after the death of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2016.

He demanded an immediate discussion on the AIADMK's performance in the recently concluded assembly elections.

Shanmugam further alleged that the party's core ideology has been weakened under the current leadership and claimed that several senior leaders and officials have been removed from organisational positions.

Shanmugam, Other Leaders Removed From Organisational Posts

In response to the rebellion during the floor test in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, the EPS-led faction initiated strict disciplinary action against several leaders, including CV Shanmugam and C. Vijayabhaskar, removing them from organisational posts for violating the party whip.

According to a report by Jagran.com, Palaniswami has the support of 22 MLAs, while the rebel faction led by Velumani and Shanmugam has the support of 25 AIADMK MLAs. Both factions have sought the disqualification of opposing MLAs under the anti-defection law.
