Actor-turner-politician Manoj Tiwari was on Wednesday accorded a warm welcome by his wife when he returned home after the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha. As the BJP MP entered the house, his wife congratulated him by applying tike on his forehead. A video in this context has been shared by Tiwari on his social media platform X (previously Twitter). “I am proud that you are a soldier of Modi Ji… My wife surprised me by saying this…This is how I was welcomed at home after the passage of NariShaktiVandan (referring to the Women’s Reservation bill)… This was amazing,” reads the post.

Manoj Tiwari is an MP from North-East Delhi and has also served as Delhi BJP president. He participated in the voting that took place in Lok Sabha to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill on Wednesday.
The lower house of the parliament passed the Women’s Reservation Bill with 454 votes in its favour. The Bill, to grant 33 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and Assemblies of State, was tabled in Lok Sabha by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Tuesday. Most of the Opposition parties, however, gave their in-principle approval to it before voting.

Once fully enforced after census and delimitation, the Bill would increase the number of women MPs in the Lok Sabha to 181 from 82 currently. Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the house earlier said the Bill, if passed, will strengthen Indian democracy. He also urged the lawmakers to unanimously vote in favour of the bill.

Even though the Bill had a smooth run in Lok Sabha, Opposition parties demanded there should be a reservation within the reservation to make provisions for the representation of OBC, SC and minorities. Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi called the Bill ‘incomplete’ even as the Congress party unanimously voted in support of it. He also asked the government to expedite the census and delimitation process so that the Bill could be enforced at the earliest.
Samajwadi Party leader Dimple Yadav also argued for quota within the quota while she was speaking about the Bill in Lok Sabha.
