In a major development, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on Saturday announced that apart from Delhi-NCR, people residing in Meerut and Sonipat will also be able to visit Agra easily. Providing details, it further stated that Yamuna Expressway will soon be connected to Eastern Peripheral Expressway, making it easier for the residents to travel.

The NHAI further stated that 60 hectares of land have been acquired for this project. Several officers of NHAI earlier inspected the land of the interchange connecting both expressways. Providing details, the NHAI stated that the vehicles from Meerut and Sonipat have to cover an additional distance of 20 kilometers to reach the Yamuna expressway.

The officials stated that apart from the convenience to the residents of the nearby areas, it will give an economic boost to these regions. The project will lead to reduced traffic congestion at Kasna and Pari Chowk in Noida. The merger of both the highways will provide the residents of Ghaziabad, Hapur, and Meerut a direct way to the Yamuna expressway, making it easier for them to travel to Agra. The people of these areas for now go to Agra via Noida.

The authority will make 8 loops at the interchange, a total of 11 kilometers long. It stated that the passengers will find it easy to get on and off the interchange once the construction is completed. The authority stated that the construction is expected to be completed within a year. The construction work for this project began in 2023.

The project is now acquired by NHAI after a minor halt in the construction work. The officials clarified that the halt was due to the alleged overexpenditure on the cost of soil used in the construction. The government later handed over the project to the NHAI to complete it by the end of 2026, as it will give a financial boost in these areas too.
