The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) have announced significant changes to the registration and examination form-filling process for students of classes 9, 10, 11, and 12.
Under the new guidelines, students must now provide an APAAR ID and PEN (Permanent Education Number) to appear for examinations. The CBSE has made it mandatory to enter the APAAR ID when submitting the List of Candidates (LOC) for the first time. However, students whose APAAR IDs have not yet been generated will still be allowed to fill the forms, with the school management clarifying their status.

The JAC has also revised its rules, requiring students to provide both the PEN number and the institution’s U-DISE Plus Code for registration and examination forms. From the 2026–27 session, all student registrations will be based solely on the PN number. Additionally, students must maintain at least 75 per cent attendance to be eligible for board examinations.
The boards have revised examination fees for classes 10 and 12. Fees for theory subjects have increased from Rs 300 to Rs 320 per subject, while practical subject fees have risen from Rs 150 to Rs 160 per subject. For five subjects, the total fee will now be Rs 1,600 instead of Rs 1,500.

Important deadlines include submission of the LOC for classes 10 and 12 without a late fee by September 30, with late fees applicable from October 3 to 11. Registration for classes 9 and 11 will remain open without a fine until October 16, with late registration from October 17 to 31.
Matriculation and Intermediate examinations are expected to be held in February 2026, with approximately 43,792 students appearing for Matriculation and around 40,905 for Intermediate from the district. The Education Department believes that the implementation of these new rules will help prevent fraudulent participation in the examinations.
