Dhananjay Kumar Singh, DIG of the Jungle Warfare School Netarhat and Jharkhand Road Safety Cell, chaired a statewide road safety review meeting via video conferencing on Thursday. The meeting was attended by all district SSPs, SPs, Range DIGs, and Zonal IGs.
The DIG sought month-wise data on road accidents, hit-and-run cases, fatalities, and injuries. He also reviewed the status of entries in the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) and the Detailed Accident Report (e-DAR), along with actions taken under the Motor Vehicles Act and progress in pending hit-and-run investigations.
Singh directed all SSPs and SPs to thoroughly review road accident trends over the past year and implement targeted preventive measures, especially in districts reporting higher numbers of crashes due to road black spots. He instructed officials to work in close coordination with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and NH divisions to adopt both short-term and long-term interventions at these vulnerable points.
Emphasising stricter enforcement, he ordered mandatory use of breathalysers, speed guns, and other enforcement tools, and called for proper prosecution procedures to curb violations such as seat-belt non-compliance, drink-driving, speeding, and lane indiscipline.
The DIG also instructed officials to ensure timely data entry in iRAD and e-DAR, expedite compensation payments in hit-and-run cases between January and October 2025, and improve coordination with highway authorities to reduce accident numbers. He directed a review of all accident-prevention efforts made from January to October.
With fog and long winter nights expected to increase road accident risks between December and January, Singh asked districts to take preventive measures in advance.
NHAI Technical Managers Gautam Das and Chandan Ashish, along with e-DAR/iRAD State Rollout Manager Shaswat Kumar Sinha, were present at the meeting held at the Police Headquarters.
