To elevate tourism in Jharkhand, the state government has expedited work on an ambitious plan to construct glass bridges in Netarhat and Patratu Valley. The Tourism Department has proposed building two glass bridges at Netarhat's Magnolia Point and Koel View Point, and one in Patratu Valley. The completion of these projects is expected to give the state's major tourist destinations new recognition at a national level.
Special precautions are being taken regarding the strength and safety of the glass to be used in the bridges. A proposal has been sent to IIT Kanpur to test the technical quality, durability, and load-bearing capacity of the glass.

The final material will be selected only after testing by the expert institution, ensuring no compromise on tourist safety and the long-term security of the bridges. The three glass bridges to be built under the project will each have a different design.
According to the proposal, one bridge will be circular, and the second will be long and straight. The third bridge will be constructed in the shape of two cupped hands. This unique and attractive design will offer a new, thrilling experience for tourists and firmly establish Jharkhand on the adventure tourism map.
The three glass bridge projects are estimated to cost approximately Rs 22 crore. The related Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been sent to the Road Construction Department. The scheme will be approved upon receiving technical clearance from the department.
The government intends for construction work to begin within the current financial year once approval is granted. The construction of the glass bridges will be modelled on the one in Rajgir, Bihar.
The Rajgir glass bridge has received a very positive response from tourists. With this experience in mind, a similarly safe and attractive model is being adopted in Jharkhand. This will offer tourists a thrilling skywalk experience and boost the state's tourism revenue. Expansion of tourism facilities in Netarhat, famously known as the 'Queen of Chotanagpur', is already renowned for its natural beauty, sunrises, and sunsets. Here, Koel View Point is being developed as a sunrise point, where a park and a sunrise watchtower have been constructed.
A significant increase in tourist numbers in Netarhat is anticipated following the construction of the glass bridge. Patratu Valley is already known for its winding roads, lake, and hills. The construction of a glass bridge here will allow tourists to enjoy a thrilling view of the valley and natural scenery from above.
This could establish Patratu Valley as a major centre for adventure and nature tourism. The completion of the glass bridge projects will not only boost tourism but also create new employment opportunities at the local level. Those involved in hotels, guiding, transport, and other tourism services are expected to benefit directly.
The government believes this project will play a crucial role in securing a strong position for Jharkhand on the national tourism map.
“There are plans to build glass bridges in Netarhat and Patratu. IIT Kanpur will inspect the glass for quality and safety standards. If all goes well, work will begin in the next financial year,” said Manoj Kumar, Secretary, Tourism Department
