The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) has initiated the process for the permanent appointment of a Director at the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL), which functions under the Home Department. The post has been lying vacant for a long time, with ADG T. Kandsami currently holding charge.
According to the notification, online applications will be accepted from September 12 to October 3. The last date for fee payment is October 6, while candidates must submit a hard copy of the application to the commission’s office by October 17.
For eligibility, candidates must have eight years of experience as Deputy Director or five years as Additional Director in a forensic science laboratory. The minimum age limit is set at 50 years and the maximum at 55 years. The appointed Director will serve until the age of 60.
The SFSL plays a crucial role in the scientific investigation of crimes, assisting the police, courts, and investigative agencies.
Its functions include:
- Physical Evidence Analysis: Examination of blood, hair, clothing, soil, and metals.
- DNA Analysis: Identification of suspects from biological samples.
- Fingerprint Analysis: Matching prints from crime scenes with suspects.
- Document Examination: Scrutiny of counterfeit documents, banknotes, passports, and signatures.
- Chemical Analysis: Detection of narcotics, poisons, explosives, and chemicals.
- Anthropology & Odontology: Identification of human remains through bones and teeth.
- Cyber/Digital Forensics: Analysis of mobile phones, computers, CCTV footage, and social media data.
- Ballistics: Examination of firearms, bullets, and cartridges.
- Toxicology: Detection of poison in the body in cases of suspected suicide or murder.
The objective of the SFSL is to provide impartial, reliable, and scientific analysis of evidence and to offer expert testimony in court.
