Himachal Rains: Himachal Rains: Continuous rain over the past two to three days has triggered landslides and caused significant damage near the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu's residence. A recent landslide in Shimla led to trees being uprooted near the Chief Minister’s residence.
While speaking to ANI, Shimla Mayor Surinder Chauhan stated that two trees were uprooted and fell on a government building. However, the house was unoccupied at that time. Earlier on Monday, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu declared Himachal Pradesh a disaster-hit state in the assembly. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), rain-related incidents have claimed 320 lives, and damages are estimated to exceed Rs 3 lakh crore. Apart from this, heavy rain triggered landslides and cloudbursts, which led to the closure of roads, including national highways and disrupted power supply.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) data showed that Himachal Pradesh received 68 per cent above normal rainfall in August, making it the ninth-highest August rainfall since 1901. The weather department has forecast more-than-average rainfall in September. Authorities have urged residents to stay cautious and avoid going to low-lying areas.
