Dhanbad Weather: Monsoon rains arrived in Dhanbad on June 18. The monsoon period, which lasted from June to September, brought heavy and sustained rainfall. Following this, the post-monsoon season began on October 1, and it too witnessed intense showers due to retreating monsoon clouds. Over a span of just 12 days, rainfall levels exceeded the normal average by an impressive 123 per cent.
According to a statement from the Ranchi Meteorological Center, conditions are now favourable for the monsoon’s withdrawal across Jharkhand. Even before its official departure, a significant dip in temperatures has set in, hinting at the onset of winter. The influence of snowfall in the northern mountains is being felt, and a mild chill has begun to settle in.
Monsoon expert Dr SP Yadav said that the arrival of westerly winds signals the monsoon's departure. The activation of western disturbances has brought a cool chill to the weather. Now, clouds moving south may occasionally strengthen locally, causing occasional light rain.
Dhanbad’s weather is currently experiencing significant variations throughout the day. Mornings bring a slight chill, while daytime sees a sharp contrast with clear skies and bright sunshine. However, as evening falls, temperatures begin to drop again.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this weather activity is due to the La Niña effect. A senior IMD official, as quoted by the TOI, said, "Our models show a good probability of La Niña developing during Oct-Dec this year".
"La Niña is usually associated with colder winters in India. While the warming effect of climate change can offset this to some extent, winters during La Niña years tend to be colder compared to years without it. This year overall may not rank among the hottest, as monsoon rainfall has already kept temperatures under control," he added.
