Lalu runs a fabrication shop from his home and works as a welding mechanic. Following this tragic incident, the couple's two children, 12-year-old Arushi and 5-year-old Naitik Raj, have lost their mother's love forever. Their mother has died, and their father is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition.
Both children study at the AG Church School in HesalKhiratoli. Upon receiving information about the incident, former MLA Ramkumar Pahan, Silli DSP Anuj Oraon, Angara Police Station In-charge Gautam Kumar Rajwar, Zila Parishad Member Representative Ramsai Munda, Salhan Chief Sarita Tirkey, and AJSU leaders Atish Kumar Mahato and Rampodo Mahato arrived at the scene.
The police have prepared an inquest report and sent the body to RIMS for a post-mortem examination. They are currently investigating the cause of death.
What Is The Case?
Lalu married Mamta Devi, a resident of Lupung, in 2012. During this period, the Ring Road was constructed, and Lalu opened a fabrication shop near the toll gate. Some time later, his nephew Sudama also began living with his maternal uncle.
Over time, Lalu began to suspect that Sudama was having an affair with Mamta. This suspicion led to frequent arguments between the couple. After the toll gate opened, Mamta started working there alongside her sister-in-law, Usha. Meanwhile, Sudama opened his own steel fabrication shop at Gondlipokhar Chowk.
On the day of the incident, Lalu and Mamta had harvested paddy and brought it home. As soon as they returned, a dispute erupted between them again. At the time of the incident, their two children were playing nearby. When the argument began, Mamta informed her sister-in-law Usha about the situation. By the time relatives arrived at Lalu’s house a short while later, the tragedy had already occurred. Mamta's body bore multiple wounds; she had been stabbed repeatedly in the throat, stomach, and back with a sharp cutting tool (baithi). There were more than twenty wounds on her body.
Murder Driven By Suspicion
Lalu suspected that Mamta was involved in a romantic relationship with his nephew, Sudama. Despite Lalu's repeated requests, Sudama refused to shift to another location. Mamta always denied these accusations, which remained a constant source of conflict between the couple. Mamta was reportedly a well-behaved woman who performed her work with dedication.
Nephew Sudama Could Be The Mastermind
The police have stated that the nephew, Sudama, could potentially be the main conspirator in this case. While being taken to RIMS for treatment, Lalu gave a statement in a video message claiming that it was Sudama who killed Mamta, and when Lalu tried to intervene, Sudama attacked him as well.
Angara Police Station In-charge Gautam Kumar Rajwar stated that the preliminary investigation suggests the murder was driven by suspicion regarding an illicit affair. "Sudama could also be the killer. The matter is currently under investigation. We will be able to say more in detail only after a comprehensive study of the technical investigation, call details, location data, post-mortem report, and forensic analysis," he said.
