Teas For Stress Relief: The major contributors to our daily stress include hectic schedules, unhealthy habits, sleep deprivation and many others. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines stress as a state of worry or mental tension caused by a difficult situation. Stress is a natural human response that prompts us to address challenges and threats in our lives. Everyone experiences stress to some degree.

While some handle stress effectively, others can experience difficulties and it can lead to hindrance in carrying out daily chores effectively. Wherever you feel the work pressure at your office or are unable to study, most of us usually prepare a cup of calming tea and sip it. Here are some calming teas that have properties to reduce stress and make you feel relaxed.

1. Chamomile Tea

According to WebMD, the antioxidants present in chamomile tea may help prevent complications from diabetes, like loss of vision and nerve and kidney damage, and stunt the growth of cancer cells. This tea is known for reducing stress and promoting relaxation. A 2016 study found that long-term use of chamomile extract significantly reduced moderate to severe symptoms of generalised anxiety disorder (GAD).

2. Green Tea

WebMD states that green tea has a high concentration of EGCG and has been widely studied. Green tea’s antioxidants may interfere with the growth of bladder, breast, lung, stomach, pancreatic, and colorectal cancers; prevent clogging of the arteries, burn fat, counteract oxidative stress on the brain, reduce risk of neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, reduce risk of stroke, and improve cholesterol levels.

3. Lavender Tea

Lavender tea is made by using lavender flowers which when consumed, boost the release of dopamine, known as a happy hormone, further reducing feelings of stress and anxiety. Many studies found that the consumption of lavender herbal tea can reduce depression and anxiety scores.

4. Oolong Tea

It is made from the Camellia sinensis plant and is extremely beneficial for overall health. The antioxidants from oolong tea can lower bad cholesterol levels. Studies conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) state that oolong tea consumption led to a significant decrease in the immediate stress score and a significant improvement in HRV.
