Foods You Should Never Refrigerate: There are numerous ways to preserve our food, one of which includes refrigeration. It is an important food preservation process that prevents the food from spoilage and helps maintain its nutritional value, and texture and prevents food-borne illnesses. The main purpose of refrigerating foods is to reduce heat from the food items and lower their temperature. But are all foods fit for refrigeration? Should we keep every other food item in our fridge? In an Instagram post, Dr Dimple Jangda, Ayurveda & Gut Health Coach listed certain foods that turn toxic for one’s health when put in the refrigerator.

Foods You Should Never Refrigerate
1. Garlic
According to Dr Jangda, never buy peeled garlic and refrigerate it because it starts catching mold very quickly. Garlic mold has actually been linked with cancer. Have you seen what a terrible odour it has? Always buy fresh garlic with a peel. Unpeel it only when you’re about to cook it and always keep it outside the refrigerator.
2. Onions
The second food that you should never refrigerate is onions. Dr Jangda explained that onion is a crop that is resistant to low temperatures. When you refrigerate it, the starch in the onion starts converting into sugar and starts catching mold. Lots of people make the mistake of cutting half an onion, cooking it and keeping the other half in the fridge. Always avoid doing that as it starts collecting all the unhealthy bacteria in the environment and catches mold. When someone is ill at home, we take a slice of onion and keep it in the corner of the room to collect all the unhealthy bacteria in the environment.

3. Ginger
You should avoid keeping ginger in your refrigerator as well. It is because when refrigerated, ginger starts catching mold very quickly and that has been linked with kidney and liver failures. Therefore, do not refrigerate it.
4. Rice
According to Dr Jangda, lots of people have started keeping cooked rice in the refrigerator because of the resistance to starch, and they think it is helping the cholesterol and blood sugar levels. But in fact, rice is one of the ingredients that catch mold the fastest. If you’re going to refrigerate it, store it in the fridge for not more than 24 hours.
