Health Benefits Of Cardamom: The fragrant spice of the kitchen, cardamom or elaichi is an incredible ingredient that has abundant health benefits. Cardamom is an ideal spice with an intensely sweet flavour and amazing fragrance and taste that adds delight to various recipes. Used extensively for culinary purposes, this spice can also be a great addition to your regular diet. From regulating blood pressure levels, and keeping a check on your heart health, to protecting the body from chronic illnesses, and digestive problems, adding elaichi to your regimen can provide amazing health benefits. In a conversation with the editorial Only My Health, Nutritionist and Fitness expert Payal Asthana, manager of Tabata Fitness shared some incredible reasons why you should incorporate cardamom into your diet.

1. Fights Bad Breath

One of the prominent uses of cardamom is for fighting bad breath. If you are someone who experiences bad breath frequently, chewing 1-2 elaichi buds can help get rid of the mouth bacteria and leave your mouth smelling fresh. Known as one of the best remedies for bad breath, you can put some elaichi powder in warm water and use it for gargling.

2. Digestive Problems

Cardamom can also be an incredible remedy for various digestive problems. It is mixed with numerous medicinal spices to get relief from stomach aches, bloating, constipation and other digestive ailments. This spice is also used to treat ulcers as eating cardamom can provide protection against the bacteria linked to the development of ulcers.

The antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of cardamom help in lowering significant blood pressure levels. A study conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) states that compounds in elaichi such as flavonoids like quercetin, kaempferol, luteolin, and pelargonidin work have anti-inflammatory properties that reduce the risk of cardiovascular risk factors in individuals with stage 1 hypertension.

4. Treats Infections

The antibacterial properties of cardamom may be effective in treating various infections. The extracts and essential oils of cardamom have compounds that have the ability to fight several bacterial infections and promote overall health.

5. Anxiety
