Food Combinations To Never Eat: According to Ayurveda, there are different foods for each season that help to maintain the body’s balance and overall health. Ayurveda not only teaches what to eat but also highlights the food combinations that should be avoided. The food people eat and how they combine the foods play a crucial role in maintaining optimal health, as per Ayurveda. Certain food combinations may seem harmless or even trendy but can disrupt digestion, create toxins and lead to imbalances in the body’s three doshas. These imbalances can often cause digestive issues, fatigue, skin problems and other chronic ailments.

In today’s time, people may often fall into the trap of mixing the wrong food items without understanding the digestive issues they can create. Ayurveda encourages mindful eating habits and thoughtful food pairings to ensure proper assimilation and harmony within the body. Here are five common food pairings that, as per Ayurveda, should not be eaten to improve gut health, energy levels and overall vitality.

Food Pairings To Avoid Eating

Milk And Fruits

The combination of milk and fruits is considered harmful in Ayurveda. Although smoothies are made of milk and fruits, Ayurveda is against consuming these two together. This is because milk is naturally cold and heavy and fruits are sweet and acidic. When eaten together, this combination weakens the digestive fire (Agni), leading to ingestion, gas, phlegm build-up and toxin accumulation. Long-term consumption can also cause skin disorders and respiratory issues.

Honey With Hot Water Or Milk

Honey with hot water or hot water is not an ideal food combination. Although honey, hot water, and milk each have individual health benefits, mixing honey with hot substances is believed to have toxic effects in Ayurveda. Heating honey or combining it with hot liquids transforms it into a harmful substance. Thus, honey should never be cooked or mixed with hot ingredients.

Ghee And Honey

Ghee and honey equally hold importance in Ayurveda for their medicinal properties. However, when consumed together in equal proportions, it can cause harm to the body. Honey has a heating effect while ghee has a cooling effect. When consumed together, they can form toxic compounds and disturb digestion. Ghee and honey can be safely used in unequal proportions and are indeed found in many Ayurvedic formulations.

Milk And Chicken Or Fish

Ayurveda also advises that consuming milk with chicken or fish is a wrong food combination. Milk is considered cooling, whereas chicken and fish are heating in nature. This thermal contrast can confuse the digestive system and generate toxins in the body. This imbalance can also lead to skin conditions like eczema, fungal infections or psoriasis. Thus, it is recommended to have milk several hours before eating chicken or fish.

Water And Fruits

Drinking water immediately after consuming fruits is another habit that is not appreciated by Ayurveda. Fruits are best eaten on an empty stomach in the morning or at least 30 minutes before or after meals. Fruits get easily digested. However, consuming water soon after eating fruits can cause fruit to ferment in the stomach and lead to gas, bloating and indigestion. This not only hampers digestion but also reduces nutrient absorption.
