Tips To Boost Blood Circulation: Proper blood circulation throughout the body is the key to maintaining optimal health. Blood circulation is an essential body function that supplies the body with enough oxygen and nutrients for proper growth and functioning of the body. But sometimes, plaque buildup, blood clots or narrowed blood vessels can lead to poor circulation. When obstacles or narrow paths slow down blood flow, it’s difficult for your body to send blood to every part of your body in an efficient way. Although blood circulation is a natural process, here are some effective tips that can help in boosting blood circulation for a healthy body.

Signs Of Poor Circulation

The Cleveland Clinic lists some common symptoms of poor blood circulation:

- Muscles that hurt or feel weak when you walk

- A 'pins and needles' sensation on your skin

- Pale or blue skin colour

- Cold fingers or toes

- Numbness

- Chest pain

- Swelling

- Veins that bulge

Tips To Boost Blood Circulation

1. Control Your Blood Pressure

According to WebMD, if your blood pressure levels are too high, it can cause arteriosclerosis, a condition that hardens your arteries and can help choke off blood flow. Check your reading at least once a month. You can buy a home blood pressure monitor or use a kiosk at your pharmacy.

2. Healthy Diet

To boost blood circulation, one should eat lots of fruits and vegetables and avoid saturated fats that can be found in red meat, chicken, cheese, and other animal sources. Steer clear of too much salt. This will help keep your weight in a healthy range and your cholesterol and blood pressure in check and your arteries clear.

3. Exercise

WebMD states that when you run, walk, swim, and practise similar exercises, you take in more oxygen and move it to your muscles. This gets your blood pumping, makes your heart stronger, and lowers your blood pressure. You can set a goal to exercise for 30 minutes, 5 to 7 days a week.

4. Yoga

Yoga is an effective method to enhance your blood circulation and promote overall health and well-being. WebMD states that when you move, it brings oxygen to your cells. When you twist, it sends blood to your organs. And upside-down positions shift blood from the bottom half of your body up to your heart and brain.

5. Hydration

Hydration is one of the major elements necessary for our health. Our blood is half water, therefore staying hydrated promotes blood circulation. WebMD suggests that an individual should aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day. You may need to drink more if you exercise or the weather changes.
