Winter Foot Care Tips: The winter months can bring upon several skincare woes such as dry hands and feet, along with several health challenges. Cold weather conditions that prevail in winter usually strip the moisture from the skin and leave it dehydrated and susceptible to infections as well. Dry and cracked heels are at higher risk of developing deeper fissures and require self-care measures.
From using overnight creams to applying essential oils, there are several ways in which you can take care of your feet and prevent dry and cracked heels. With a little extra care and attention, here are 5 simple ways in which you can keep your feet smooth and healthy this winter season.
Winter Foot Care Tips
Moisturisation
One of the easiest and most effective ways to prevent dry feet is by moisturising them regularly. Opt for a thick and creamy lotion that has active ingredients like glycerin, coconut oil or shea butter. Applying a good moisturiser on your feet daily can help seal the moisture and form a barrier of protection.
Exfoliate
If you are suffering from dry and cracked feet, you should consider including exfoliation in your routine. At least once a week, apply a pumice stone or mild foot scrub to get rid of blisters and dead skin on your feet. Exfoliate your feet gently to prevent skin damage and then thoroughly moisturise them.

Keep a pair of dry socks with you to change into if your feet get wet, and consider using foot powder or antifungal sprays if you are prone to moisture-related foot issues. Consider wearing moisture-wicking socks that help pull moisture away from your skin, if you have dry feet.
Wear Proper Footwear
To keep your feet comfortable, soft and dry, choose moisture-wicking socks made of synthetic combinations or merino wool. Cotton socks should be avoided since they retain moisture and can encourage the growth of fungus and bacteria.
Trim Your Toe Nails
Make sure to trim your toenails frequently to maintain their health and avoid ingrown toenails, which can cause pain and infection. To keep your nails and surrounding skin nourished and avoid splits and cracks, use a nourishing cuticle oil.
