DIY Exfoliants: There is hardly any girl who does not want their skin to be healthy and glowing. Apart from cleansing, moisturising, what plays an active role in providing a radiant complexion is exfoliation. There are several commercial exfoliants available on the market, but nothing works better than the kitchen ingredients that are used almost every day to prepare meals. Yes, you read right! The ingredients found in the pantry work as excellent, powerful and natural exfoliants that help remove the dead skin cells, unclog pores and reveal a fresher, brighter and glowing look.

These kitchen ingredients help nourish the skin without the harsh chemicals found in store-bought scrubs. Besides, they are cost-effective as well as accessible for an everyday skincare routine. DIY exfoliants help rejuvenate the skin and restore the glow of the face throughout the day. Here are the five everyday kitchen ingredients that work as powerful exfoliants.

DIY Natural Exfoliants For Glowing Skin

Urad Dal (Black Gram)

Urad dal is a staple in Indian cuisine and doubles as a gentle exfoliant. When ground into a fine paste, it works to slough off dead skin cells, promoting a smoother texture. It has properties that help to brighten the skin and even out the complexion. To make an exfoliating scrub, soak urad dal overnight, grind it to a paste and massage it gently on the skin in a circular motion before rinsing.

Oatmeal

Known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, oatmeal is suitable for sensitive skin. Finely ground oats can gently exfoliate the skin without causing any irritation. Oatmeal contains compounds like avenanthramides, which have a soothing effect on the skin. Mix ground oatmeal with a bit of water or yoghurt to form a paste and apply to the face. Massage gently before rinsing.

Almond Paste

Almonds are rich in vitamins A and E, which are beneficial for skin health. When ground into a paste, almonds act as a mild exfoliant, helping to remove impurities and dead skin cells. Additionally, almonds provide deep nourishment to the skin, making it soft and supple. Soak almonds overnight, blend into a fine paste and apply to the skin. Massage gently before rinsing.

Sugar

It is a natural source of glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid that promotes cell turnover. The granular texture of sugar makes it an excellent exfoliant. Glycolic acid, found in sugar, improves skin texture and provides hydration. Make a simple scrub by combining sugar with honey or olive oil to create a paste and massage it onto the skin and then rinse off.

Coffee Grounds

Coffee grounds offer great exfoliation owing to their coarse texture. This helps to remove dead skin cells and improve blood circulation due to the caffeine content. Its antioxidant properties also protect the skin from damage. Mix coffee grounds with coconut oil to form a scrub, apply to the skin and massage gently before rinsing.
