Foods To Avoid In Monsoon: The country is already rejuvenated with the lovely weather and temperatures of the monsoon season. The rainy weather brings pleasant weather that almost all of us enjoy. While we appreciate the respite from the heat with rain and cool winds, it is also important to remember that monsoon season comes with its health concerns as well. From increasing the risk of water-borne diseases to stomach infections, monsoons can take a toll on one’s health and wellness.

Therefore, one must pay attention to what goes on our plates during the monsoon season to prevent infections. Here is a list of foods that you should avoid eating during rainy weather to avoid increasing the risk of stomach infections and other illnesses.

Foods To Avoid In Monsoon

Street Foods

Street food is extremely dangerous to health, especially in the monsoon season. The rainy weather causes a significant increase in bacterial contamination in the street foods, thus leading to increased cases of food poisoning and other infections. Also, the humid weather of monsoon makes digestion slower and eating fried street foods can lead to digestive problems such as bloating, gas, constipation, abdominal cramps and others.

Watery Foods

It is usually suggested to avoid eating foods that contain water such as watermelon and cucumbers in the rainy season. This is because these foods increase the risk of waterborne diseases due to contamination of water. Also, these foods can cause bloating and indigestion due to their excess water content.

People especially with any skin allergies should avoid eating spicy foods during the rainy season. Spicy foods can worsen digestion as humidity affects the body’s ability to digest food faster. If you consume spicy foods over this, it can lead to stomach acne, bloating, acidity and indigestion.

Avoid Too Much Salt

Excess salt intake during monsoon can cause water retention and bloating, which can cause quite discomfort during the rainy season. Heavy salt intake is responsible for water retention and high blood pressure levels. Therefore, consume salt in moderate quantities to protect your health during monsoon season.

Limit Seafood

Monsoons are the ideal breeding season for a variety of fishes and other seafood, which can cause them to be more susceptible to contamination and infections. If you consume seafood during rain, it can increase your risk of food-borne diseases.
