Active listening is key to a healthy relationship with your children. When your child speaks to you, pay undivided attention. Set aside distractions, maintain steady eye contact, and carefully listen to what they are trying to say. Provide feedback to show that you care and understand them.
The first and foremost way to become a better parent is by being present in their lives. Even though you might have a hectic day at work, try to make an effort to be fully present when spending time with your children. Set aside your work and other affairs while engaging in activities that you and your children truly enjoy. This helps create a warm impact on them and strengthens the bond between you and your child.

Disagreements are one of the most difficult situations a parent can encounter. This is where the role of empathy and understanding is enhanced to help navigate situations of agreement and disagreement. As a parent, try to see things from your child's viewpoint. Willingly take your child’s emotions into account. Tell them you understand how they're feeling and that it's a safe space to express themselves. Provide guidance and support without judgment, and help them navigate their feelings and emotions with ease.
Mindful communication is an important step. Be thoughtful when it comes to choosing your words. Communicating with empathy and compassion is crucial to a healthy parenting journey. Consider your child’s needs and emotional capacity before speaking. Always remember that you are the pillar of support and protection in your child’s life.
