Signs Of Fatty Liver: Early-stage fatty liver disease often has no noticeable symptoms which makes it challenging to detect until the condition advances. However, since the liver plays a crucial role in detoxification, digestion and metabolism, maintaining its health is essential for overall well-being. Ignoring early signs of fatty liver can lead to more severe complications such as inflammation, fibrosis or cirrhosis.

Recognising these early warning signs is crucial to preventing further liver damage and ensuring better treatment outcomes. Here are 5 key symptoms that may point to fatty liver disease and why they should not be overlooked for the sake of your liver’s health.

Signs Of Fatty Liver To Not Ignore

Persistent Fatigue

One of the most common early symptoms of fatty liver disease is chronic fatigue. Individuals with fatty liver often experience unusual tiredness, even after a full night’s rest.

Discomfort in Upper Right Abdomen

Another red flag of fatty liver disease is discomfort or pain in the upper right side of the abdomen where the liver is located. When the liver becomes enlarged due to fat accumulation, it can cause pressure and pain in this area.

Unexplained Weight Loss

As the liver becomes increasingly damaged, its ability to metabolise fats and process nutrients effectively declines, sometimes resulting in unintended weight loss.

Jaundice

When the liver is overwhelmed with fat or damaged, it cannot filter bilirubin efficiently, causing it to accumulate in the bloodstream. If you notice a yellowish tint in your skin or eyes, this is a strong indicator that your liver is struggling to function properly.

Swelling in Abdomen and Legs

As fatty liver disease progresses, it can lead to complications like cirrhosis which may cause fluid buildup in the abdomen and swelling in the legs. When the liver’s function becomes impaired, it can no longer produce enough proteins to maintain fluid balance in the body, resulting in fluid retention.
