Tricks To Prevent Razor Bumps: Shaving is considered a quick and convenient way to get smooth skin, however, for some, it can often become an irritating affair as it leads to razor bumps and irritation. Shaving leads to red, itchy and painful bumps that not only look bad but also cause ingrown hairs and skin sensitivity. These bumps occur after the recently shaved hair becomes ingrown, meaning it grows back into the skin rather than out. This often causes an inflammatory response on the skin. Whether people shave their face, legs, underarms or bikini area, razor bumps can cause absolute discomfort and can sometimes be painful as well. They not only lower the confidence but also make the entire grooming routine a futile one.
What Causes Razor Bumps?
Razor bumps happen when the small hairs that are shaved or removed become pushed back under the skin. They are ingrown hairs that become irritated and inflamed. The inflammatory response is what causes those small red bumps on the skin. Although razor bumps usually happen after shaving the skin, they can happen with any kind of hair removal, including waxing or plucking. However, with effective tips and tricks, razor bumps can be avoided after shaving.
Tips To Prevent Razor Bumps After Shaving
Always Exfoliate
Use a gentle scrub or chemical exfoliant to remove the dead skin cells from the skin before shaving. This helps clear the clogged pores and lifts trapped hair, reducing the chance of ingrown hairs, bumps and irritation.
Use Sharp, Clean Razor
An old, dull blade tugs at hair and causes skin irritation and cuts. Always use a sharp, clean razor and replace the blade regularly to ensure a clean shave without unnecessary cuts.

Apply Shaving Gel
Shaving on dry skin causes redness, making the skin prone to razor bumps. Use a moisturising shaving cream or gel to soften the hair and provide a protective barrier between the skin and the blade.
Shave In Direction Of Hair Growth
Shaving against the growth of hair may give a smoother result, but it makes the skin prone to razor bumps. Always try shaving in the direction of the hair growth. This prevents the skin from inflammation and ingrown hairs.
