Many of us indulge in junk food daily, succumbing to cravings or seeking flavour excitement. Whether it's convenience snacks, fast food or sweet treats, junk food's allure is hard to resist. However, these guilty pleasures often come with unpleasant consequences like gas, bloating and discomfort. Processed ingredients, excess sugar and unhealthy fats can disrupt digestion and gut health. Regular junk food consumption can also lead to chronic health issues.
However, several nutrient-dense foods and drinks possess natural detoxifying properties which help to eliminate harmful toxins and reset the body's balance. Eating or sipping them after a junk food binge can counteract its negative impacts. Here are five things that you can consume after eating the most preferable junk food items as suggested by the nutritionist Sakshi Lalwani.

Foods And Drinks To Detox After Eating Junk Food
Water
If you have a sweet tooth and love relishing desserts, then drink lots of water to dilute sugar's harmful effects. Water helps flush out excess glucose, reduce cravings and prevent digestive discomfort. Moreover, hydrating after sweet treats also supports healthy blood sugar levels and weight management.
Apple
Dr Lalwani suggests eating an apple after noodles. Apples' fibre content helps slow down sugar absorption while regulating blood sugar levels. The antioxidant-rich fruit also aids digestion, counteracting noodles' potential glycemic spike and promoting a healthier gut.
Pear Or Orange
The nutritionist recommended eating a pear or an orange after spicy foods to alleviate discomfort. Vitamin C and citric acid properties present in orange calm the digestive system and reduce inflammation.

Celery Juice
We all consume fried foods on a daily basis and according to Dr Sakshi, one should drink celery juice after fried food items. Celery's natural diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties help flush out excess salt, reduce bloating and neutralise acidity while promoting a healthier gut and fast detoxification.
Banana
She advised to have a banana after barbecue food. The potassium content of bananas helps stabilise sodium levels while fibre and vitamins alleviate digestive discomfort. Its soluble fibre slows down carbohydrate absorption and reduces the glycemic spike caused by crackers while promoting satiety, improving digestion and supporting healthy gut bacteria.
Oats
She also suggested eating oats after crackers. Its soluble fibre slows down carbohydrate absorption and reduces the glycemic spike caused by crackers while promoting satiety, improving digestion and supporting healthy gut bacteria.
As said by the nutritionist Dr Sakshi Lalwai, having these foods helps to flush out the sugar from your bloodstream and prevent it from accumulating in your body. The vitamins and antioxidants present in them help settle the stomach, increase the secretion of gastric juice, help the good bacteria in food absorption and aid in digestion.
