New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: Annual spring festival that is also known as ‘Akha Teej’ or ‘Akti’, Akshay Tritiya is celebrated across the country today. But, due to coronavirus lockdown, it won’t be a business as usual this time. This is because all the Jewellery shops will not be in business this year.

However, on a brighter side, the lockdown also gives us the opportunity to follow one of the basic tenents of Akshaya Tritiya – helping the needy, the ‘Daan’ or donation. The country isn’t going through a tough time, and there are people who are struggling to survive. In such period, the significance of Akshaya Tritiya increases multiple folds.

The Jagran English has brought to you the things you must do this Akshaya Tritiya, and the ones you must abstain from:

Do’s

1. Daan (Donate): Helping out the needy with food, clothes or money is believed to be auspicious on this day. One must donate as per his/her own capacity – although, this time, while following the lockdown in place to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.

2. Worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi: According to ancient Hindu beliefs, one must worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi on this auspicious day. So wake up early in the morning, and meditate in the name of kshirsagar residing Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi.

3. After worshipping, make sure you offer a saatvik bhog (nutrition without Onion and Garlic, and definitely not non-veg) to the lord. After that, distribute that bhog among the family members, and if possible to the holy cow as well.

Don’ts

1. Don’t get into fights, abuse or swearing during the auspicious day. The mind gets disturbed and the soul gets adulterated like that, which one must avoid on this day.

2. Abstain from drinking and smoking on this day. Also, one must follow brahmacharya (avoiding the dispersal of sexual fluids) on this day.

3. Abstain from eating non-veg and drinking alcohol. Eat saatvik aahar (Onion-Ginger less nutrition).
