Foods That Trigger Migraine Attack: Usually referred to as a type of headache, migraine is characterised as a severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, on one side of the head. It is a common neurological condition that can be triggered by movement, light, sound, and unhealthy foods, and causes symptoms such as pain, tiredness, nausea, visual disturbances, numbness and tingling, irritability, difficulty speaking, temporary loss of vision and many more.

According to the Association of Migraine Disorders, fewer than 30% of people with migraine have their symptoms triggered by food. To be considered a migraine trigger, the food must trigger your migraine-related symptoms within 24 hours of the time it's consumed, and it must do that more than half the time that the food is eaten. Here is a list of foods that you must avoid to prevent migraine attacks.

Foods That Trigger Migraine Attack

1. Caffeine

Consuming too much caffeine can cause migraine or migraine headaches. It is because coffee is a diuretic, which makes you urinate more and increases dehydration. Dehydration is one of the most common triggers of migraine attacks.

2. Alcohol

According to WebMD, a chemical called ethanol is alcohol's main ingredient. Once it gets into your system, it is converted into a chemical that triggers migraine. Ethanol is also a natural diuretic. That means it makes you pee more than normal. All of these things can set you up for a migraine.

3. Chocolate

The American Migraine Foundation states chocolate to be the second most common triggering food of migraine. Chocolates contain good amounts of caffeine beta-phenylethylamine, both compounds which can trigger migraine in some people.

4. Fermented Foods

Fermented foods contain tyramine which can trigger migraine attacks in those who are sensitive. Pickles, kimchi, kombucha, and pickled okra are some examples of fermented foods that you should avoid for migraine.

5. Frozen Foods

Consuming too much frozen foods such as ice cream can also trigger migraine attacks. When eating frozen foods too quickly, after exercising or when overheating, have the potential to cause headaches that can turn into migraine headaches.
