The majority of us might be fond of a colourful breakfast plate to keep ourselves energised and full for the day. Breakfast is an ideal food that is regarded as ‘the most important meal of the day’, as it replenishes the supply of glucose to boost energy levels while providing necessary nutrients to the body to function throughout the day. But Ayurveda, the holistic medicinal system, claims that certain foods create an imbalance in the body and should never be consumed in breakfast.

Ayurveda is an ancient and holistic medicine based on a natural and holistic approach to physical and mental health. It is one of the world’s oldest medicinal systems and traditional health care systems in India. According to Ayurveda, there are certain foods and beverages that one must avoid consuming in the morning, as they can lead to feelings of uncomfort and other problems throughout the day. Here’s the list of foods and beverages that you should avoid consuming first thing in the morning, as per Ayurveda.

Foods That You Must Avoid Eating In Your Breakfast

1. Cold Drinks

Drinking chilled cold drinks first thing in the morning can interrupt the digestion process. Consuming cold drinks in the morning can contract muscles, further restricting digestion. Also, if you are suffering from dental problems such as sensitivity or achalasia, you must avoid chilled drinks in the morning hours.

2. Heavy, Oily Foods

Consuming fatty and excessively oily foods first thing in the morning is not an ideal way to start the day. This can lead to raised unhealthy cholesterol levels and a lowering of healthy cholesterol levels in the body. This can further increase the risk of heart-related diseases such as high blood pressure. Oily foods such as chips, fries or pizza are high in calories and unhealthy fats, which can lead to weight gain, obesity, heart diseases, and impaired brain function.

3. Curd

Though curd is enriched with probiotics that are healthy for the bacteria in the gut, one must avoid consuming curd on an empty stomach in the morning. Consuming curd or fermented foods first thing in the morning leads to hydrochloric acid in the body, which kills lactic acid present in dairy products and leads to acidity.

4. Raw Foods

Raw foods such as salads are indeed healthy for the body, but eating them first thing in the morning can hamper digestive health. Raw foods are abundant in fibre, which can be difficult to digest. This can impede the digestion process and lead to constipation, bloating, gas or pain in the abdomen.

5. Sugary Foods

Foods high in sugar should be avoided at all costs in the morning. Eating breakfast rich in sugary foods can lead to a surge in sugar levels in the body, further causing a rise in blood sugar levels. This can cause feelings of intense hunger after a short period, weight gain and obesity.
